Hemsworth Ready for More Thor After Avengers 4
Thor fans rejoice, Chris Hemsworth has indicated he is more than happy to continue playing the God of Thunder after the upcoming Avengers 4.
Since first taking to the MCU in 2011, Hemsworth has played the long-haired lothario to become one of the central figures of the studio’s current cinematic slate. After three solo movies to himself — wrapping with 2017’s much lighter Thor: Ragnarok — the Australian actor’s current contract with Disney is due to come to an end after Avengers 4 in 2019. However, it sounds like he isn’t ready to put down Mjolnir just yet.
Speaking to IGN, the 34-year-old said he is looking forward to continuing his time in the MCU in Phase 4 and beyond:
“I’ve just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that’s my contract — my preexisting contract is done now, so it’s kind of like, ‘wow, that’s it. Two or three films ago I was like, ‘okay, a couple more.’ I was enjoying it but I was like… I felt a little restricted. And after this last experience with Taika, and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we’ve reinvented the character a number of times — even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don’t get that opportunity often in a franchise. So I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm, and more so than ever, I think.”
While Thor’s demise in the battle against the Mad Titan Thanos was always pretty low on the likelihood scale, Hemsworth’s words also seemingly confirms his survival beyond Avengers 4. Considering that he has just wrapped work on the Russo brothers’ second Avengers adventure, it would be easy for Hemsworth to walk away from the MCU, but who would ever be that foolish?
Given that Taika Waititi’s Ragnarok was a breath of fresh air to the Thor movies after a particularly grim Thor: The Dark World, it neatly opened the door to another solo movie and the start of a new trilogy for the God of Thunder. Sporting his shorter hair and that snazzy new eyepatch, expect a much more hardened version of Thor as we move forward after the destruction of Asgard.
Fans may have to wait quite a while until Thor takes to our screens for another standalone, but fear not, the various trailers for Infinity War show that he will have plenty to do, and will (presumably) be making some new friends with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Along with the likes of Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., Hemsworth is one of the MCU’s figureheads, and it is great news to many that he doesn’t plan on going anywhere just yet.
