Legion, The Gifted EP Speaks Up About Bryan Singer

From the very beginning, Bryan Singer has been a looming presence over Fox’s X-Men film franchise. Not only has he directed the most films in based in the universe, Singer also currently served as executive producer for The Gifted and Legion, two shows set in the X-Men universe. He recently lost his credit for Legion, and may soon lose the one for The Gifted as well.

Just ahead of the announcement of Singer’s removal from Legion, Laura Shuler Donner, who serves as producer or executive producer for the entire slate of live action X-Men material, spoke about Singer with RottenTomatoes during the recent Television Critics Association press tour.

Late last year, news of X-Men director Bryan Singer came out about allegations of sexual assault against a 17-year-old boy. During that same time, Singer was fired from directing the biopic about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Asked about Singer, Shuler Donner was fairly tight-lipped. “I love Bryan,” she said, “but Bryan has a lot of demons. Bryan has some problems, and Bryan needs to take care of his personal problems. That’s all I can say.”

Legion will return in April for 10 episodes, with Singer’s name removed from the credits. The series stars Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Jean Smart.
