Supergirl: First Look At Mon-El’s Legion Costume
The CW has unveiled a first look at Chris Wood’s Mon-El dressed in his Legion of Super-Heroes costume from Supergirl. The image follows the debut on Friday of Jesse Rath as Legionnaire Brianiac 5, and a detail shot of Mon-El, which focused on the iconic Legion Flight Ring.
Mon-El’s new suit bears no resemblance to his comic book counterpart, who traditionally wears a red-and-blue military-inspired costume, complete with epaulets and flowing cape. Although it’s difficult to discern colors in this image, the earlier teaser suggests the textured leather jacket is blue, not black. The stitching on the chest would seem to evoke the shape of Superman’s signature emblem.
The costume will debut Monday, Jan. 15, in Supergirl‘s midseason premiere, the aptly titled “Legion of Super-Heroes,” which introduces the Arrowverse version of DC Comics’ team of 31st-century heroes:
MEET THE LEGION – Struggling to heal from her injuries inflicted by Reign (Odette Annable), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) remains in a dreamlike state, unable to be reached. Mon-El (Chris Wood) recruits one of the Legion members, Brainiac-5 (guest star Jesse Rath), to try to bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign continues her rampage on the city so the DEO teams up with the Legion of Superheroes to try to stop her.
Supergirl has long teased the debut of the Legion of Super-Heroes, dating back to a glimpse of a Legion Flight Ring in Season 1, and continuing with the introduction of Mon-El as a supporting character in Season 2. Amy Jackson debuted earlier this season as Legionnaire Imra Ardeen, better known to DC Comics readers as Saturn Girl.
Returning Monday, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Chris Wood, Katie McGrath and Odette Annable.
