X-Men Producer Looking Forward to Crossing Over with MCU

Last December brought with it the news that Disney had reached an agreement worth almost $60 billion dollars that would see it acquire major parts of 21st Century Fox and regain the rights to many of its superhero characters, including the X-Men. While the deal could still fail to go through, Lauren Shuler Donner, who has produced every film in the X-Men franchise since 2000’s X-Men, has said that she’s looking forward to working with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Look, it’s 18 months [away], so who knows,” Donner told Rotten Tomatoes. “For me, I think Bob Iger is one of the smartest men in the country. Alan Horn’s an old friend. Kevin Feige was my intern and assistant and then my associate producer on the first X-Men. Kevin and I started the X-Men together, so for me, if we work with Kevin, I’m happy.”

Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand, which released in 2006, was the last film that Donner and Feige worked together to executive produce. Feige previously worked as an intern for Lauren Shuler Donner and her husband, Superman: The Movie director Richard Donner.

Donner also mentions Disney CEO Bob Iger and Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn in her statement.

Deadpool 2, the next film in the X-Men film universe, slashes its way into theaters on June 1. The presently untitled sequel stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, TJ Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapicic, Leslie Uggams, Jack Kesy, Karan Soni and Eddie Marsan.
