The Witcher Season 2 to Finally Introduce The Last Wish Character

According to reports, Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher will finally introduce Mother Nenneke from Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish to the series.

A notable absence from Netflix's adaptation of The Last Wish, by Andrzej Sapkowski, in Season 1 of The Witcher was the high priestess Nenneke from Ellander. Recent reports suggest that the character will finally make an appearance in Season 2.

According to Redanian Intelligence, the Temple of Melitele will be a location featured in Season 2. At least two priestesses from the Ellander temple will appear, one of which is the high priestess, Nenneke, though it is currently unknown who will play her. Additionally, Iola, another priestess, as well as Jarre the Scribe, from The Last Wish will also appear.

These characters appeared in "The Voice of Reason," the framing story of The Last Wish, which sees Geralt of Rivia recuperating at the Temple of Melitele after his battle with the Striga. Nenneke also appears in Blood of Elves when Ciri is taken to the temple to train in the ways of magic with Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Nenneke's role in Netflix's adaptation of The Last Wish was seemingly filled by Triss Merigold, who aided Geralt in his investigation of the Striga in the series and helped him recover from his wounds.

Season 2 is set to predominately adapt Blood of Elves, as well as certain stories from Sword of Destiny. Photos and plot details that have surfaced have revealed the season will see Geralt and Ciri make their way to the witcher fortress of Kaer Morhen, where Ciri trains under the tutelage of Geralt, Lambert, Eskel, Coën and their mentor, Vesemir. Moreover, photos from the set of Season 2 reveal that Ciri will meet Yennefer and likely train under her as their novel counterparts did.

The Witcher Season 2 originally began filming in February 2020, but has been hindered by several issues. It was initially forced to come to a halt in mid-March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that caused industry-wide shutdowns across the globe. After approximately four months, the United Kingdom gave the film industry permission to continue filming, on the condition that certain health and safety protocols were implemented. Production resumed on The Witcher in August, but was forced to shut down for two weeks in November after certain individuals on set tested positive for COVID-19.
