Black Panther Post-Credits Scenes Confirmed
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther held its world premiere and attendees have confirmed how many post-credits scenes the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment includes. Marvel Studios is celebrating 10 years of the MCU in 2018, with the year marking a decade since Iron Man premiered in 2008 and officially kicked off the sprawling superhero franchise. One key way Iron Man launched the MCU was with the use of a post-credits scene, which featured Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury approaching Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) about the Avengers Initiative. Ever since, post-credits scenes have been a major part of MCU worldbuilding and often work as teasers for upcoming films.
Kicking off their 10th anniversary year, Marvel Studios recently held the premiere of Black Panther, early social media reactions for which have been immensely positive. While attendees haven’t revealed any spoilers about the upcoming Marvel film directed by Creed’s Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, non-spoiler reactions and tidbits have made their way online for eager fans. Now, we know exactly how many post-credits scenes will be featured with Black Panther.
Premiere attendees Shawn Madden of Heroic Hollywood and Rebecca Keegan of Vanity Fair confirmed on Twitter that there are two post-credits scenes attached to Black Panther. This follows the Marvel standard of including a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. It hasn’t been confirmed if that’s when the scenes for Black Panther will appear in the credits, but that seems the most likely format.
It’s unclear what exactly these post-credits scenes contain, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans of this superhero franchise considering Marvel Studios’ reputation for keeping all major spoilers under wraps. In fact, Marvel and those in attendance at the Black Panther premiere will almost assuredly keep the post-credits scenes a secret until the film officially opens in mid-February. That way, fans will get to experience these two post-credits scenes completely unspoiled.
With that said, we can speculate about what the Black Panther post-credits scenes will set up. The next major MCU release is the massive team-up Avengers: Infinity War and it’s almost a guarantee that at least one of the credits stingers will work to set up Marvel’s big summer blockbuster. We know the central story of Black Panther doesn’t set up Infinity War, but post-credits scenes are often removed from the main narrative of the movies to which they’re attached. And, considering Infinity War is Marvel’s biggest MCU release yet, it’s likely the studio would want to tease it with a post-credits scene attached to Black Panther.
The second post-credits scene may tease either a sequel to Black Panther or the third 2018 MCU release, Ant-Man and the Wasp – though, considering the credits teasers of previous Marvel films, the former option is more likely than the latter. Unfortunately, all we know for now is how many post-credits scenes are attached to Black Panther. Fans will have to wait for Black Panther to hit theaters before learning what exactly the post-credits scenes contain.
