Doctor Who: David Tennant Brings Back Tenth Doctor For Special Video
David Tennant, perhaps the most popular actor to play the immortal, time-traveling adventurer known as The Doctor since Doctor Who‘s revival in 2005, has returned to the role that made him an international superstar for a short video. Also appearing in the video is Georgia Tennant, David’s wife, who famously appeared as The Doctor’s daughter, Jenny, in the episode appropriately titled “The Doctor’s Daughter”.
David and Georgia hit it off while filming the episode, in which the DNA of David Tennant’s Doctor (the tenth incarnation of the character) was forcibly retrieved to create a clone “daughter” to fight in an army that was reduced to shoring up their numbers using any fresh humanoid DNA they could find. The two began dating shortly after filming on the episode concluded, eventually marrying in 2011. This proved quite amusing to Doctor Who fans, who noted that The Tenth Doctor had married his daughter – who was already a Doctor’s daughter, as Georgia’s father is actor Peter Davison (who portrayed The Fifth Doctor).
The video (which has been embedded below) was posted to Georgia Tennant’s Twitter account. In it, The Doctor explains with horror, to an unperturbed Jenny, that the Earth has once again been endangered by The Cardiff Rift: a key point in the mythology of Doctor Who during the Tenth Doctor era.
The video was shot in honor of writer Gary Russell, who had recently emigrated to Australia. A former child-actor, Russell abandoned the stage for a career as a freelance writer and editor. Although he never wrote any full-length scripts for the shows, Russell did work as a script editor for both Doctor Who and the spinoffs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Russell has also written a number of Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures novels, directed several audio-plays set in the Doctor Who universe, published a 2004 book on the art of The Lord of the Rings, and was responsible for writing the first monthly Doctor Who comics published by IDW.
While this may not be the triumphant return of the Tenth Doctor and Jenny that many Doctor Who fans have dreamed of, it is still an amusing video. The two characters were recently reunited in the pages of the Titan Comics Doctor Who crossover event The Lost Dimension. Sadly, given David’s busy schedule – which includes providing the voice of Scrooge McDuck for the new DuckTales cartoon and starring in the upcoming television adaptation of the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel Good Omens – it seems unlikely that we will be seeing The Tenth Doctor team up with Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, when the show returns later this year.
Doctor Who season 11 doesn’t have an official premiere date yet, but will air sometime in 2018.

When @twilightstreets left for Australia his friends were asked to contribute to a surprise film. We may have gotten a tad overexcited... pic.twitter.com/pd960krUkO— Georgia Tennant (@georgiaEtennant) January 28, 2018
