Rumor: Henry Cavill Looking To Extend DCEU Contract

According to a new report, Superman actor Henry Cavill is looking to negotiate a contract extension with Warner Bros. in the hopes of extending his stay within the DCEU. The 34-year-old actor first debuted as the DC Comics hero back in 2013’s Man of Steel, and he’s returned to the role two additional times in Batman v Superman and Justice League since then. While director Zack Snyder’s take on the character has proven to be pretty divisive, Cavill’s performances have been anything but, as critics and fans alike have embraced the actor as the modern age Superman.

Despite his face being bogged down by some of the worst CGI in modern memory, many moviegoers walked out of Justice League with Cavill high on their lists of the the film’s greatest accomplishments. Fans couldn’t wait to see Superman return to the big screen, ideally in a direct sequel to Man of Steel, a project that has long been rumored to be a top priority for DC’s shared universe. But just days after Justice League hit theaters, Cavill delivered some disappointing news when he confirmed that he was only under contract for one more appearance as the Last Son of Krypton.

If a new rumor holds true, however, DCEU fans needn’t worry about losing their Superman anytime soon. A new report from Revenge of the Fans states that Cavill is looking to extend his deal with the shared universe. According to RotF’s sources, Cavill wants his rumored appearance in Shazam! to count as the final film in his contract, with Man of Steel 2 then kicking off the new deal. Both parties are reportedly very open to the idea of an extension, and it’s all simply “a matter of contractual logistics.”

The report also reaffirms that Man of Steel 2 is indeed still on the way. There’s no mention of a possible script, nor are there any new names to add to the growing pile of big name filmmakers that are interested in the director’s chair. (Matthew Vaughn, Steven DeKnight, and George Miller are among the candidates that were previously rumored for the gig.)

Cavill’s Superman has come a long way over the last few years, and we’re hopeful that he and Warner Bros. are able to come to an agreement that ensures his place as the DCEU’s Superman for years to come. Are you excited to hear about the contract talks? What do you want to see in Man of Steel 2, and who do you think should direct? Sound off in the comments.
