Agents of SHIELD: May’s Fate Revealed

In “Fun and Games,” the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Melinda May was sent somewhere no one is supposed to survive: the uninhabitable surface of the Earth. Following her capture in “A Life Earned,” she was sent to Kasius’ arena, where she was defeated by her Inhuman opponent Ben — and her penalty was death.

As Kasius and his potential buyers waited for Ben to kill May, Fitz quickly intervened. “This fight bores me,” he announced. He demanded to see Quake, Destroyer of Worlds, perform instead.

Nevertheless, Kasius was insistent: a life was owed. “Send the Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the surface,” Fitz suggested. “The Vrellnexians will have much more use for her than your weary audience.” Kasius immediately obliged.

As Fitz pointed out, the Earth’s surface is crawling with Vrellnexians, who are known to the locals as roaches. These roaches suck moisture out of their victims, which Coulson and his team learned the hard way in the premiere. Earlier in the season, a minor character was sent to the Earth’s surface in punishment, where he was immediately attacked by the roaches — which goes to show that this threat is very real.

Fortunately for May, Fitz had a plan. He sent Enoch, who was posing as Fitz’s servant, to the surface to help her. However, if Virgil’s mysterious broadcast is any indication, Enoch might not be the only one who goes looking for May. In “A Life Spent,” Coulson, Mack and Yo-Yo discovered a broadcast that was sent from the Earth’s surface and they soon learned that Deke’s father was on the other end. Seeing as Deke’s father was also sent to the Earth’s surface in punishment for being a True Believer, it appears as though there may be survivors hidden there.

Airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge, Nick Blood, Jeff Ward, Eve Harlow, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Coy Stewart.
