Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Body Count Just Skyrocketed

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suffered multiple causalities in “Fun and Games,” the latest episode. As the team fought tooth and nail to get back to each other, some of the allies they made along the way paid the ultimate price. Over the course of the episode, Tess, Ben and Grill met violent ends.

Ben, one of Kasius’ Inhuman warriors, was the first casualty. After discovering May, Kasius realized the telepath had lied about Daisy and Simmons traveling through time alone. “You see, Ben was present when I asked the Destroyer if others had traveled through time with her. She insisted that my servant was the only one, which turned out to be untrue. He lied,” Kasius announced to his potential buyers. “Normally, that would not preclude him from being sold, only — in this instance — that lie was told to me.”

Fitz tried to intervene on Ben’s behalf, but Kasius wouldn’t have any of it. “You of all people must understand no man of honor can allow the tongues of his slaves to lie so boldly,” he explained. He then cued Sinara to use her deadly spheres to kill Ben, making an example of him before the others.

Tess’ death came after her encounter with the Kree soldier who oversaw Flint’s Terrigenesis. Asked if she had seen him, she told the Kree she hadn’t. “If I find you keeping things from me, there will be consequences,” he threatened. Tess smiled and walked away, and it appeared she had gotten away unscathed.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Coulson and Mack later stumbled across her body in the Terrigenesis room. The Kree left her floating with a warning stapled to her chest: “Bring the Inhuman.” Rather than scare them off, this deadly message only strengthened their resolve to help Flint.

Grill was the last to go. Though he was never quite an ally to Coulson’s time-displaced team, he had helped them blend into life in the year 2091. However, as soon as he discovered that Yo-Yo was Inhuman, he was ready to turn them all in. Before he could do that, Flint began to manifest his own Inhuman power: geokinesis, or the ability to manipulate the Earth around him.

“You stop it, or I will stop you,” Grill threatened, only for Flint to kill him with a pile of rocks. Flint was immediately remorseful about killing Grill, though Coulson, Mack and Yo-Yo assured him that it was necessary to survive.

Of course, it is unclear how much these deaths will matter if the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are able to go back in time and stop whatever cataclysmic event destroys the Earth. Should they do that, it’s unclear if any of these characters will even be born, nevermind killed by evil alien overlords. Hopefully, though, they’ll have a brighter — and longer — future ahead of them if Coulson and his team are successful.
