Chris Evans Confident in Avengers: Infinity War, Says ‘Marvel Doesn’t Miss’

Chris Evans hypes up fans for Avengers: Infinity War, saying the upcoming movie won’t disappoint because Marvel Studios does not miss. Playing the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU since 2011, the actor has appeared in a total of five films as the super soldier with two more films waiting on the docket.

The Captain America trilogy led by Evans is some of Marvel Studios’ finest work. Aside from the titular character, the sub-franchise has introduced several supporting players who have become fan-favorites, such as Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon. As we inch towards the much-hyped culminating films of the MCU in the next Avengers installment, expectations are running high, putting immense pressure on the shoulders of directors Joe and Anthony Russo to deliver. However, if it’s any indication, recent comments from Evans hint that the superhero spectacle will live up to its promise of fulfilling narrative pay-off for the franchise.

Attending Ace Comic-Con (via ComicBook) with Stan and Mackie, Evans talked a bit about what the general feeling was like on set for these big-budget films, particularly Infinity War and Avengers 4, which just wrapped filming. In the process, the actor shared that he’s very excited to play his part in this huge narrative especially with all of its moving pieces coming together. He further said the fact that every sub-franchise of the MCU thus far has delivered makes it more rewarding to be part of it:

“That was the best part of this movie, is that you really kind of, it really was for the first time for me feeling like… the first few movies it’s almost like it’s happening to somebody else. You kind of feel like you’re watching it happen, but you’re not actually a part of it. This was kind of the first movie where you actually felt like you had a seat at the table and you belonged and it was so nice to have all these other franchises that you’ve watched and admired come to a set where you’re like oh man, I belong here, and all these great people are part of a movie that we’re all doing together, and it was just wonderful because all of those franchises, well, let’s be honest. Marvel doesn’t miss. They haven’t missed yet. They’re batting a thousand.”

“I don’t know how they do that. They don’t miss and so to see all these actors come together from all these other franchises that I’ve seen as fans be exchanging dialogue with me was overwhelming and really just so satisfying because really truly, there’s not one bad apple.”

Evans’ statement is not without merit. Over the last 10 years of the studio’s life, the company has rolled out 17 hit movies, all interconnected with one another, perfecting the franchise-building model that every studio in Hollywood is trying to replicate. Despite the inherently flawed Rotten Tomatoes procedure in aggregating reviews, company president Kevin Feige admitted that they take pride in their accomplishment of their long string of Fresh projects – not one getting a Rotten rating from either fans or critics. And while some films are significantly better than others, with weak links such as The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World, all of their flicks are able to at least deliver when it comes to the fun factor that these big blockbusters are expected to offer.

However, as the MCU continues to grow and get more complicated with the addition of its mystical pocket and further exploration of the cosmos, for some fans, fun is not cutting it anymore. Viewers are demanding more from what they get from these superhero films and are starting to get more critical of what they see on the big screen. Considering how invested they are in these characters and their stories, it’s only apt that they don’t settle for anything less than a quality flick, especially when time and time and again we have seen that we can get great products from the popular genre if a studio continues to be open to innovation and bettering themselves.
