Legends of Tomorrow Midseason Return Synopsis: Constantine Needs Help
The synopsis for the midseason premiere of Legends of Tomorrow reveals more details on the crew of the Waverider’s team-up with John Constantine (Matt Ryan). We also learn what the rest of the Legends will be up to when the series returns on its new night.
After running for only one season, Constantine was cancelled by NBC in 2014. As the show had attained a sizeable fan-following, Matt Ryan’s demonologist detective was able to return as a part of the Arrowverse. Constantine guest-starred in a season 4 episode of Arrow as an old acquaintance of Oliver’s. Constantine’s magical expertise was needed to fully restore Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) to life. The character will soon get his own animated series, which is said to be even darker than his live-action show. It was later confirmed that Constantine would appear in Legends of Tomorrow‘s third season.
The CW has released a synopsis for the midseason premiere of Legends of Tomorrow, titled “Daddy Darhkest”. Apparently, Constantine’s visit to the Waverider will involve a trip to a psychiatric hospital. The Legends will try to help Constantine with one of his clients. Constantine and two Legends will go missing during an exorcism. Also in the episode, Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Nate (Nick Zano) will have another encounter with Amaya’s evil granddaughter, Kuasa.
After Sara’s (Caity Lotz) encounter with Mallus, the Legends are paid a visit by John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan), a demonologist detective.
The Legends agree to accompany him to a present-day psychiatric hospital and they are surprised to discover who Constantine is trying to help.
During the exorcism, Sara, Leo (guest star Wentworth Miller) and Constantine go missing, leaving Ray (Brandon Routh) and Zari (Tala Ashe) to try to take care of Constantine’s client.
Meanwhile, Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Nate (Nick Zano) once again come face to face with Kuasa. Dominc Purcell also stars.
Based on the title, we can expect the events of the episode to tie in somehow with Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). It’s already been confirmed that Constantine’s appearance in the episode will revisit season 4 of Arrow, particularly the season finale. Fans will recall that in the season-ending showdown, Oliver finally killed Darhk. It could be that “Daddy Darkhest” will explore how Darhk’s death affected his daughter, Nora. Nora was a child when we first saw her in Arrow, but in Legends she’s a full-grown, wicked sorceress and follower of the evil entity known as Mallus, this season’s “big bad”.
It’s hard to say what will come of Constantine’s role on Legends, or how long he will remain on the Waverider. It’s been suggested that there’s a possibility of a romance between Constantine and Citizen Cold. We also know that Constantine will strike up a friendship with Sara, the same woman whose soul he saved.
Legends of Tomorrow season 3 returns Monday, February 12th at 8pm ET on The CW.
