Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Who Is Kasius’ Seer?

Kasius has a seer of his own on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but who could it be? Dominic Rains’ character’s eerie words at the end of last week’s episode provoked a lot of questions; he strode out of those sealed metal doors with possibly undeserved confidence, seeming to know all about the agent’s plans before anyone else.

There’s a lot going on with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s ambitious fifth season, but this is one of the most perplexing mysteries. Just who is whispering prophecies in Kasius’ blue ear?

The mystery is intriguing because, presuming it will be someone familiar to audiences us, the options are aggressively low. The obvious pick would be Raina (Ruth Negga); she’s the only character so far who has been able to see the future, which would make her a perfect pick. Of course, the last time we saw Raina was in Season 2 when she was murdered by Daisy Johnson’s mother, but as this week’s episode also pointed out, Kasius doesn’t seem too hindered by death and has a way to reanimate those whose time has already come.

A more likely theory is that Kasius’ seer is actually one of the cast brought back from the future (so not a magical seer, but someone who’s experienced what’ll happen). We already know time travel is possible by a few different methods, so there’s no real in-universe barrier to creating a big twist; it would definitely shocking to see an elderly Yo-Yo sitting in a chair, having already lived all of these moments and more.

Regardless of who it is, the entrance of a Kree-employed seer brings with it a series of unanswered questions. If Kasius really does have someone who can reveal the future, how has he been so blindsided at every turn, up to and including the arrival of his brother and the human rebellion that just occurred? Wouldn’t a seer have warned him that all his bombs were moved out of their designated spot and down into level 25? Of course, seers are a tricky plot device to use – they tend to give just enough advice to be interesting, but not enough to actually change the timeline – so logic holes like this are only to be expected.

This season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been the strongest in some time, and one that can be said for certain is that – whoever is behind those blast doors – it’s going to really up the ante for the episodes to come. Let’s just hope it’s not Grand Ward (again).
