Legends of Tomorrow Producer Reveals How Wally West is Introduced
Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim revealed how Wally West will show up in the second half of season 3. It appears that fans will have Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) to thank for the addition of Keiynan Lonsdale’s Wally West to the crew of the Waverider.
In a shocking move, Wally West left Central City in an early episode of season 4 of The Flash to forge his own destiny. Andrew Kreisberg, The Flash‘s showrunner at the time, explained that the series didn’t need multiple speedsters anymore. The decision caused fans to wonder if the character could join the cast of Legends of Tomorrow. Wally’s appearance on the show was confirmed a few weeks ago. It was later announced that Kid Flash would be added as a series regular. His assistance will be sorely needed, considering that the team is now without Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax (Franz Drameh), two of the team’s founding members.
Since Legends of Tomorrow was moved to a new night to share Supergirl‘s Monday timeslot, fans have to wait a while longer to see Wally West join the crew of the Waverider. Wally will show up in the February 19th episode, “Here I Go Again”, one week after the show’s return. According to Guggenheim, Rip Hunter will be the one who brings Wally to the team. After meeting them, Wally will realize that the Legends are “a good group to stay with.”
The last time we saw Rip, the former Time Master had been ousted from the Time Bureau—an organization he founded—and was hauled away by his own people. Even Sara (Caity Lotz) turned her back on him. Angry about being used by Rip to pursue Mallus, Sara allowed Rip to be captured by the Time Bureau. Rip tried to warn Sara that the Legends needed to be ready for Mallus. His warnings were disregarded by the Time Bureau who sentenced him to prison.
Obviously, Rip’s incarceration will be short-lived. Since we can expect that Rip won’t give up on his goal so easily, his reasons for bringing Wally to the Legends are likely tied to his crusade against Mallus. Wally’s super speed will undoubtedly be a welcome asset to the team, but what about Rip? The Legends may not be willing to welcome him back with open arms.
Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow returns February 12th at 8pm ET on The CW.
