Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel Reportedly Casting Femme Fatale
A new report claims that Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is looking to cast a femme fatale type of character. The still-untitled sequel will mark Tom Holland’s second solo outing as the web-swinging Marvel hero since his introduction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Slated to start filming this spring, not much is known yet in terms of its narrative beats. But with director Jon Watts returning, as well as screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, we expect that the film will have the same young vibe as the first Homecoming. Having said that, intel ahead of principal photography, including scheduled shoots around Europe, continue to trickle in. Now, a new report offers some insight into a new character joining the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.
As reported by The Hashtag Show, Homecoming 2 casting director Sarah Finn and her team are on the hunt for a European actress, around 20-years-old to play what was described as a “femme fatale.” This news comes on the heels of rumors about Marvel looking for a European iteration of what sounds to be their version of Gwen Stacy – a creative liberty that not many long-time Spider-Man fans are exactly thrilled about. It’s difficult to gauge who the supposed femme fatale in Homecoming 2 may be, but the first character that springs to mind is Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat – a cat burglar who followed the footsteps of her world-renowned cat burglar father, Walter Hardy.

Of course, we know that the character will eventually appear in her own spinoff, Sony’s Silver and Black, that is presumably connected to Venom. But with that budding franchise’s connection with the MCU still unclear, it’s intriguing what this idea could mean to the two Marvel film series if it pans out, especially with rumors of Peter Parker potentially appearing in the currently in production Tom Hardy film. In the pages of the comics, Felicia Hardy has a long and tumultuous relationship with Spider-Man, initially starting as an adversary, but eventually becoming a love interest. However, with that timeline far ahead of where the MCU version of the character is, it’s an interesting notion that this is the story road Marvel Studios may be treading.
The casting of a Black Cat-type character for the still-untitled Homecoming sequel is a bit odd, especially after thinking about the kind of premise that the film established for this Spider-Man’s trilogy, which is very grounded. Having said that, there are a few reasons the introduction of possible long-term game players in the MCU via the film makes sense. First, with Peter’s out-of-this-world experience, figuratively and possibly literally in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, the high schooler will have been exposed to the bigger Marvel superhero world by the time his second solo outing rolls out. Second, the fact that it will be the first film of Phase 4 gives it merit to be the springboard for new heroes that could play a major role in the series down the line.
