Legends of Tomorrow is Getting a Groundhog Day-Inspired Episode
Legends of Tomorrow is doing an episode in the style of Groundhog’s Day with Zari (Tala Ashe) as the central character. Zari will be trapped in a time loop and only Gideon (Amy Pemberton) will be able to help her. For only the second time in the series, fans will get to see Gideon, the ship’s AI, in the flesh. Gideon took human form in the season 2 episode “Land of the Lost” when she kissed Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) while inside his mind.
The concept of a time loop was made popular by the film Groundhog’s Day, which saw Bill Murray’s character forced to relive the same day over and over again. The plot device has since been used in single episodes of numerous science fiction TV shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Supernatural, X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 12 Monkeys, and several others. Time loop episodes generally revolve around one character who constantly relives the events of a single day until they’re finally able to come up with a solution to a particular problem.
The next show to adapt the time loop concept is Legends of Tomorrow with the episode “Here I Go Again,” which is set to air February 19th, one week after the show returns on its new night. According to the official synopsis, Zari is stuck in a time loop that always results in the Waverider being destroyed in an explosion. Zari will discover that the key to stopping the time loop and saving the Waverider may be found in the secrets of her teammates. During her investigation, Zari will begin to understand her place on the team.

Assisting Zari is Amy Pemberton’s Gideon, who will appear in her physical form. The two are expected to have an interesting dynamic, as Pemberton says Gideon has a “bit of a beef” with Zari. Fans will recall that Zari hacked into Gideon’s systems earlier in the season. Apparently, Gideon isn’t over that yet. Pemberton says that most of Gideon’s scenes will be with Zari since the rest of the Legends will be “frozen” during the episode.
Also in this episode, fans will get to see Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) join the Legends. The speedster will be brought to the team by their former captain, Rip Hunter.
Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow returns Monday, February 12th at 8pm ET on The CW.
